What is Lentil plant?
Lentil is an annual legume whose small flattened seeds develop in pods.
Structure and life cycle
Form: Slender stems bear many small leaflets and flowers. Each pod usually holds few seeds. Root-nodule bacteria can fix nitrogen when conditions allow. Commercial terms such as red, green and brown may reflect cultivar and processing differences.
Growth, uses and cautions
Growing and food: Lentils favor temperate conditions; drainage and weather during flowering affect yield. Their cooked seeds supply protein and fiber. Nitrogen fixation does not mean that every field has no other nutrient requirements.
