What is Chickpea plant?
Chickpea is an annual legume grown for pods containing one or a few seeds.
Structure and life cycle
Structure and symbiosis: Compound leaves, flowers and inflated pods grow on branching stems. Compatible bacteria in root nodules can turn atmospheric nitrogen into forms available to the plant. This does not automatically fertilize every soil; bacterial presence and growing conditions matter.
Growth, uses and cautions
Growth and use: It can grow in temperate and semi-arid areas, but excessive heat or moisture during flowering may be harmful. Dried seeds are cooked or milled. Dry legumes should be properly prepared and cooked rather than eaten raw.
