What is Avocado tree?
Avocado is an evergreen member of the laurel family grown for its oil-rich fleshy fruit.
Structure and life cycle
Flowering: Small flowers cluster together; timing of female and male phases varies among cultivars. Pollinating insects and nearby compatible cultivars can affect fruit set. Botanically the fruit is a large-seeded berry; some cultivars soften notably after picking.
Growth, uses and cautions
Growing and safety: Well-drained soil and frost protection matter; waterlogging can harm roots. The fruit is used in food, but leaves and pits should not be assumed equally safe to eat. Parts of the plant may harm pets, and species-specific veterinary advice is appropriate.
