What is Cucumber plant?
Cucumber is a climbing or trailing gourd-family plant cultivated for juicy fruit usually eaten fresh.
Structure and life cycle
Form and pollination: Tendrils grip supports, and broad leaves accompany mostly yellow flowers. Male and female flowering patterns differ by variety. Bees pollinate many types, while some seedless greenhouse cultivars can form fruit without fertilization. Botanically cucumber is a fruit.
Growth, uses and cautions
Growing and use: It favors warm well-drained soil and regular water; drought can reduce fruit quality. Young fruit is harvested for fresh eating or pickling. Wild gourd relatives must not be assumed edible based only on resemblance.
