What is distributed tracing?
Distributed tracing correlates the stages of one request across services to locate latency and errors.
Traces and spans
A request carries a trace ID; services record spans and propagate context. Sampling reduces volume but needs a strategy for rare failures.
Uses and limitations
It helps identify a slow service in a payment flow. Traces should exclude personal data and secrets, and retention and overhead must be controlled.
