What is a webhook?

Added: 24 October 2026

A webhook automatically sends an HTTP notification to another service when an event occurs.

Event notification

The receiver validates the payload and signature, acknowledges quickly and uses an event ID to prevent duplicate processing. Heavy work moves to a queue.

Uses and limitations

It can update an order after payment. Ordering and delay depend on the provider; merely knowing the endpoint URL is not proof of authenticity.
