What is CORS?

Added: 24 October 2026

CORS is an HTTP header system controlling whether browser code may read a response from another origin.

Cross-origin permission

The browser sends Origin and the server replies with Access-Control-Allow-Origin when appropriate. Some requests require an OPTIONS preflight; methods and headers are controlled separately.

Uses and limitations

CORS is not authentication or a server firewall; non-browser clients may still send requests. Wildcard origins cannot be combined with credentialed browser access.
