What is a data pipeline?

Added: 24 October 2026

A data pipeline is an automated sequence that moves, transforms and validates data from source to destination.

Ingestion and transformation

Batch or streaming records pass schema checks, with bad records quarantined. Retries, idempotent writes, monitoring and failure alerts improve reliability.

Uses and limitations

It can transfer sales to a reporting system. Duplicate events and timezone mistakes may skew totals, so reconcile source and destination counts.
