What is observability?
Observability is the ability to infer a system’s internal state from metrics, logs and traces.
Signals and context
Metrics reveal trends, logs record events and traces show cross-service paths. Shared identifiers and timestamps connect signals to user impact and service objectives.
Uses and limitations
It can reveal capacity issues early. Noisy alerts distract operators; collection cost and privacy also need management.
