What is API versioning?
API versioning plans and communicates interface changes without unexpectedly breaking clients.
Change management
Versions can be conveyed in paths, headers or media types. Adding a field may be compatible, while removing or redefining it can break consumers. Migration windows and usage metrics matter.
Uses and limitations
Mobile apps may use older interfaces for a long time. A number alone does not ensure compatibility; documentation, tests and deprecation schedules are needed.
