What is a data contract?
A data contract defines agreed fields, types, quality expectations and change rules between data producers and consumers.
Schemas and expectations
Version the schema, null rules, refresh cadence and ownership. Pipelines can test breaking changes before release. A contract should also explain business meaning.
Uses and limitations
It helps prevent dashboards from breaking after schema changes. A written agreement is insufficient without monitoring actual data quality.
