The League of Nations was founded after World War I to address disputes among states peacefully.

Beginning work in 1920, it also dealt with health, labor, minorities and refugees. The United States did not join, and membership and great-power interests limited enforcement. Responses to aggression by Japan, Italy and Germany drew criticism.

Failure to prevent World War II was profound, but some activities informed later UN work. Saying it achieved nothing misses this mixed record.
