What is the history of the Holocaust?
The Holocaust was the systematic persecution and murder of about six million European Jews by Nazi Germany and its collaborators from 1933 to 1945.
Historical context and developments
Discriminatory laws and exclusion developed into ghettos, mass shootings, deportations and killing centers. Nazis also persecuted and murdered Roma, disabled people and others; each victim group’s history deserves specificity.
Consequences and interpreting sources
Documents from perpetrators, witnesses, resisters and survivors are central evidence. Denial or minimizing victims contradicts extensive archives, testimony and material evidence.
