What is chronic kidney disease?
Chronic kidney disease is a long-lasting problem with kidney structure or function.
Symptoms, causes and assessment
Early stages may have no symptoms. Estimated kidney function from blood creatinine and urine protein are considered together; one abnormal result does not always prove persistent disease. Diabetes and hypertension are common risk factors.
Care and when to seek help
Follow-up depends on cause, medicines, blood pressure and individual nutrition needs. Some drugs, including pain relievers, can affect kidneys; discuss new medicines or supplements. Abrupt low urine output or severe breathing difficulty needs urgent care.
