Why does a jade plant lose leaves?
Jade plant is a South African succulent with woody stems and fleshy opposite leaves.
Structure, development and life cycle
Leaves store water for dry periods. Overwatering can deprive roots of oxygen, while prolonged drought can wrinkle and drop leaves. Abrupt temperature changes, insufficient light and physical knocks also contribute. Mature plants may produce small star-shaped flowers with enough light and cooler nights.
Growing, uses and cautions
A sunny or very bright window, mineral-rich draining mix and watering after drying are basic needs. Water use falls as growth slows in winter. Soft translucent leaves and dry wrinkled leaves should not be interpreted the same way. The plant may harm dogs and cats, so fallen leaves should be removed from reach.
