What is gastritis?
Gastritis involves inflammation or irritation of the stomach lining.
Symptoms, causes and assessment
Upper abdominal discomfort, nausea or appetite change may occur, but some have no symptoms. H. pylori, medicines, alcohol and other causes are considered. Not every burning sensation is gastritis; endoscopy findings and symptoms may differ.
Care and when to seek help
Care targets the cause. Vomiting blood, black stools, notable weight loss or difficulty swallowing deserves prompt evaluation. Review prolonged pain-reliever use with a clinician.
