What is Beaver facts?
Beavers are large semiaquatic rodents that fell trees and can build dams and lodges.
Anatomy, behavior and diet
Continuously growing incisors cut wood; webbed hind feet and a broad tail assist swimming. Branch-and-mud dams can raise water levels and protect lodge entrances. Not every group builds a dam; bank dens occur by deep water.
Habitat and conservation
They eat bark, twigs and aquatic plants. Their wetlands can benefit other species but may conflict with farms and infrastructure. North American and Eurasian beavers are different species; management depends on local conditions.
