What is Golden eagle?
The golden eagle, Aquila chrysaetos, is a large raptor that hunts across open and mountainous country. In Turkish it is also called the rock eagle.
Traits and way of life
1. Species and identifying features Dark brown plumage with a golden nape, broad wings and age-dependent markings identify this soaring raptor. 2. Habitat and diet It hunts mammals and other available prey in mountains and open country, sometimes scavenging. Nests may be on cliffs or large trees.
Behavior and conservation
3. Behavior and reproduction Breeding pairs use large areas and may return to a nesting site. Young depend on adults for food; prey availability and limited disturbance support breeding. 4. Ecology and conservation As a top predator it shapes food webs. Power infrastructure, toxins and habitat change cause local mortality. Safer lines and protected nest sites help.
