What is Cheetah?
The cheetah, Acinonyx jubatus, is a slender long-legged cat with dark facial tear lines. Sprint speed is only one part of its ecology.
Traits and way of life
1. Species and identifying features Acinonyx jubatus has a light build, flexible spine and running adaptations. Separate spots and facial tear lines distinguish it from leopard rosettes. 2. Habitat and diet It hunts mainly small to medium antelopes in open landscapes. Sprints are short and costly, requiring prey and space for approach.
Behavior and conservation
3. Behavior and reproduction Females generally raise cubs alone; some males form coalitions. Other predators, prey and roads affect young and adults. 4. Ecology and conservation Habitat conversion, prey loss and conflict are threats. Connected landscapes and coexistence measures matter more than a speed record.
