How does golden pothos grow?
Golden pothos is a tropical climber known for heart-shaped variegated leaves and can be grown trailing or climbing.
Structure, development and life cycle
Roots and shoots emerge from nodes, so stem pieces containing a node propagate readily. Leaves often remain small on trailing stems but can become larger and more mature on a moist climbing support. Yellow variegation varies with light and cultivar. Rooting in water does not remove long-term nutrient and oxygen needs.
Growing, uses and cautions
Medium to bright indirect light and a draining mix are suitable, while direct midday sun can scorch leaves. Let the surface dry somewhat between waterings and do not leave the pot standing in water. Long stems can be pruned above a node. The plant contains irritating oxalate crystals and should be kept away from pets.
