Why does a fiddle-leaf fig drop leaves?
Fiddle-leaf fig is a West African tree known for broad leaves shaped somewhat like a violin.
Structure, development and life cycle
Leaf drop has no single cause: oxygen-poor roots, prolonged drought, abrupt light changes, cold or transport stress may contribute. Regular yellowing of lower leaves and spotting on new leaves can indicate different problems. Large leaves gather light but also lose water and suffer physical damage. The stem becomes woody and branches under suitable conditions.
Growing, uses and cautions
Keep the plant in a stable position with bright indirect light and make rotations or moves gradually. When the upper soil dries, water the whole root ball and drain excess. Remove dust from leaves without shine oils. When symptoms appear, inspect roots, moisture and environment together rather than watering by a fixed calendar.
