What is a wind rose?
A wind rose charts how often wind blows from different directions at a location.
Formation, concepts and processes
Spokes show directions, lengths frequency and colors may show speed classes. A north wind blows from the north. The diagram depends on time period and station; an annual result does not describe every season separately.
Examples, applications and limits
It aids runway orientation, ventilation and pollution studies. Buildings and valleys can alter local flow. A wind rose summarizes observations rather than forecasting a particular future day.
