What does a cloud engineer do?

Added: 25 October 2026

A cloud engineer supports secure, reliable applications on remotely provided computing infrastructure.

Duties and work settings

They configure and automate compute, networks, storage and deployment according to need. Capacity, backups, logs and costs require monitoring. Using a cloud provider does not transfer every security responsibility to it.

Skills, safety and entry routes

Teams test outages, access rights and recovery plans. Designs must consider data protection, location requirements and unexpected cost as well as speed.
