What does an astronomer do?
An astronomer researches celestial objects and physical processes in the universe using observation and analysis.
Duties and work settings
They use telescope and spacecraft data, simulations and statistics. Planetary atmospheres, star formation and galaxies are distinct research areas. Cleaning data, coding and collaborative publication occupy much modern work.
Skills, safety and entry routes
They may work at observatories, universities or data centers; not all use a telescope nightly. Astronomy is observational science and differs from astrology’s claims about personality or fate.
