What does a landscape architect do?
A landscape architect designs outdoor spaces with ecological, functional and aesthetic needs in mind.
Duties and work settings
For parks, squares, waterfronts or campuses, they study soil, water, plants, shade and walking patterns. Designs lead to construction details and maintenance plans. Appearance alone is insufficient if a space wastes water or excludes users.
Skills, safety and entry routes
Climate-suitable plants, rainwater, accessibility and user voices guide design. Collaboration with architects, engineers and local authorities accounts for landscapes changing over time.
