What is a final judgment?

Added: 25 October 2026

A final judgment can prevent the same dispute from being litigated again under defined conditions.

Key concepts and application

Procedural finality concerns the exhaustion or expiry of ordinary appeals. The preclusive effect is assessed through parties, relief and cause of action. Interim rulings do not automatically have the same effect.

Rights, procedure and limits

Finality and enforcement are separate questions. New facts, different relief or an exceptional remedy may change the outcome. Review the actual operative ruling and applicable procedure.
