What is Severance pay in Türkiye?

Added: 24 October 2026

Turkish severance pay may be owed when statutory service and termination conditions are met. It does not arise automatically after every resignation or dismissal.

Definition and legal framework

1. Scope The current Labour Act and the surviving severance provision of the former act both matter. Worker status and employment relationship must be identified first. 2. How it works Start and end dates, reason for termination and continuity matter. Eligibility differs from calculating the amount; covered pay and period-specific caps may affect calculation.

Consequences and application

3. Rights, conditions and exceptions Employer and worker termination can have different consequences. Just cause, retirement and special grounds require their own conditions. Notice pay and unused leave are separate rights. 4. Practical considerations Keep payslips, bank transfers, service records and written termination. Do not apply an old cap to a new period; check current rules and preliminary procedure.
