How are natural resources distributed?
Natural resources include water, minerals, energy and biological assets distributed unevenly across Earth.
Formation, concepts and processes
Geological history shapes ores, climate and catchments shape water, and sunlight and wind shape energy potential. What counts as a resource changes with technology, prices and needs. A deposit does not prove extraction is economically or environmentally suitable.
Examples, applications and limits
On maps, reserves, production and consumption are distinct. Management considers local water, ecosystems and communities. Resource abundance alone is not a measure of prosperity.
