What does habitable zone mean?
The habitable zone is the range around a star where a rocky planet could maintain surface liquid water under suitable atmospheric conditions.
Formation, motion and physical explanation
Boundaries depend on stellar luminosity, spectrum and atmospheric greenhouse effect. Mass, rotation, clouds, oceans and geology alter actual climate.
Evidence, applications and limits
Being in the zone proves neither life nor habitability; it is one energy condition. Subsurface oceans may also exist outside it. Conclusions about distant objects rely on testing images, spectra, time variation and physical models together.
