How does Bernoulli's principle work?

Added: 27 October 2026

Bernoulli's principle describes tradeoffs among pressure, speed and elevation-related energy along an ideal flow.

Physical mechanism and core principles

In steady, incompressible, frictionless flow, static pressure may decrease where speed rises. The simple form does not directly apply with turbulence, viscous loss or pumps.

Evidence, applications and limits

Venturi tubes infer flow from pressure differences. Aircraft lift involves Bernoulli relations together with flow turning, angle of attack and momentum transfer. Quantitative interpretation must state boundary conditions, units and ideal-model assumptions.
