What is traditional dance?
Traditional dance consists of movements, rhythms and music learned and shared within a community.
Origins, forms and everyday life
Steps matter alongside time, place, musicians and participation rules. A named dance may vary by region. A staged performance and a participatory dance at a wedding carry different meanings.
Meaning, change and safeguarding
Safeguarding supports practitioners’ teaching and learning instead of freezing one choreography. Recording should respect dancers’ consent and musical context.
