What is street art?
Street art includes murals, stencils, lettering and other visual interventions on urban surfaces.
Origins, forms and everyday life
It creates encounters unlike those in galleries. A work may be commissioned or unauthorized, with different property implications. Site, building history and a work’s short lifespan shape meaning.
Meaning, change and safeguarding
Documentation and preservation involve artists, owners and residents with different interests. Treating street art solely as city branding can erase local voices.
