Validity concerns whether evidence supports the interpretation and intended use of assessment results.
Key concepts and practice
If comprehension is the target, items should not measure only memorized words. Examine coverage, task format and relationships with other evidence. A test is not valid in every context merely because it has a label.
Examples, evaluation and limits
Language load, disability barriers or unequal technology access can undermine an inference unrelated to the target. Results useful for feedback may be insufficient for high-stakes placement. A new purpose requires new evidence.
