What is a learning objective?
A learning objective states what a learner is expected to know, understand or be able to do after learning.
Core approach and practice
Conceptual framework A sound objective focuses on learner action and may specify context and expected quality. “Teach the topic” describes a teacher action; “interpret data and justify a conclusion” describes observable learning. Implementation steps Objectives arise from content and learner needs. Activities, resources and assessment are aligned with them, and the purpose is communicated clearly to students.
Evaluation and practical cautions
Contribution to learning Clear objectives guide attention, make feedback concrete and help teachers collect relevant evidence. Multiple objectives can be prioritized and sequenced. Limits and sound use Not every valuable outcome fits one short, easily scored statement. Reducing goals to tiny behaviors can neglect deep understanding and attitudes.
