How can a YKS programme code be verified before submission?

Added: 4 November 2026

A programme code identifies the institution and study option submitted through the YKS preference system. Similar names may refer to different universities, scholarship rates, languages of instruction or modes of study. Compare the official guide and the AİS preference screen row by row, using the current year’s guide. This is a practical verification process, not a promise that a valid code makes an applicant eligible or ensures placement.

Finding and matching a code

1. Where is the official code? Locate the programme row in ÖSYM’s Higher Education Programmes and Quotas Guide for the relevant year. Do not treat a third-party preference tool or an old PDF as a sufficient source on its own. Read the institution, programme, city, faculty or vocational-school unit and numeric code together on the same row. Similar programme names can conceal materially different choices. Record which edition of the guide supplied the code and watch announcements issued during the preference period. A code copied without its surrounding details is easy to attach to the wrong option. 2. How do similar entries differ? One academic field can contain separate records for language of instruction, scholarship or fee arrangement, campus, quota type and mode of study. Review those attributes and footnotes in the relevant table. A code may refer to the university you intended while pointing to another campus or study option. A shortened name on a phone screen is therefore insufficient. Open the full guide row and follow any condition number to its explanatory note. If the programme description remains confusing, compare the university’s own official page, while taking the ÖSYM row as the authority for the placement code. 3. Why is an old code risky? New programmes, changed names and updated tables make an earlier year’s list unsuitable as an assumed current list. ÖSYM’s 2026 guide publication notice asks candidates to follow the guide republished during the preference window and later announcements. An early draft cached in search results can differ from the operative edition. After copying a code, check the entire row again, not merely the length of the number. A previous year’s cutoff rank cannot identify a programme code for a new placement cycle. The exact record must be confirmed within the current guide.

Checks and next steps

4. What should be checked in AİS? After entering a code, compare the programme name and details displayed by the system with the guide row. For every preference, check institution, city, field, language and any special condition against the code, without carrying information from the prior line into the next. If an error appears, correct it according to the active year’s screen rules and deadline. The order saved in AİS can differ from a handwritten draft. ÖSYM’s preference announcement emphasizes following on-screen instructions through completion of the transaction. Check the resulting list instead of assuming that typing a code submitted it. 5. Does a valid code establish eligibility? A recognized code does not itself prove that you meet the score-type, ranking or special-condition requirements. Once identity is confirmed, inspect the same row’s score type, capacity and explanatory notes. If a historic fee or condition differs from the current row, use the current official information. Preference tools can be useful for discovery, but the operative guide governs the decision. Do not generalize an exception on one row to every programme with a similar name. Code verification and admission likelihood are separate questions; neither can be resolved by the code alone. 6. How is the final transaction checked? Before the period closes, revisit the final sequence and programme names in AİS and complete the transaction. Check the on-screen confirmation or saved state and retain a private record securely. Sharing a password can invite unauthorized changes, while adding an unfamiliar programme at the last minute can undermine the careful comparison. If the guide is updated, determine exactly which rows the new notice affects. This method does not guarantee a particular deadline or acceptance in a later year. The official AİS record and current ÖSYM announcements determine what has actually been submitted.
