How can YKS school valedictorian information be checked?
Being named the top graduate at school and seeing that status accurately recorded in ÖSYM’s Candidate Transactions System are separate matters. For the 2026 YKS, ÖSYM asked eligible graduates to inspect the AİS record during an announced window and have errors corrected through their school’s e-Okul record. This guide explains what to compare, who handles a discrepancy and why a correct record by itself does not guarantee a university placement.
Comparing the candidate record with school data
1. Which announcement and year govern the check? Start with ÖSYM's school-valedictorian announcement for the exam year in which you are applying. Its 2026 notice asked graduates named school first in the 2025–2026 academic year to inspect their information through AİS between 17 and 22 July 2026. Those dates are an example from that year, not a timetable for any later examination. A social-media calendar or a screenshot from an earlier applicant can mislead you about the current verification window. If the official announcement states a closing hour, read which action that hour limits. The candidate review period and a school's deadline for correcting an underlying record can have different endpoints, so record both explicitly. 2. What should be compared in AİS? Use only the official Candidate Transactions System and sign in with your own credentials. On the relevant year's education and valedictorian screen, compare the school name, graduation period and school-first indicator with the information held by your school. A certificate or school list does not prove that the electronic transfer to ÖSYM succeeded. Conversely, a symbol on the screen should not be treated as a final entitlement until its year and school are clear. Do not publish your personal screen in an open group. If you find a discrepancy, show the necessary evidence securely to the school administration and ask exactly which source record is inconsistent. Keep your account password private even when another person offers to help. 3. Who can correct an error? ÖSYM's 2026 notice instructed candidates with missing or incorrect status to have the correction made in the MEB e-Okul system. That is not the same as editing the AİS status yourself. Contact the school from which you graduated and, if directed, its competent district or provincial education unit; ask them to inspect the relevant field. ÖSYM separately announced a period when school administrations could use the Public Institutions Transactions System to check, update or confirm certain education records that had not come from e-Okul. Do not assume that this additional route automatically applies to every applicant. Confirming the correction and understanding quotas
4. How do you confirm that the record changed? Contacting a school does not by itself prove that the electronic record was updated. After the authorized staff confirm a correction, sign in again during the official review window and inspect the record for the same examination year. Keep the school's written response and the date of your own check in a secure place; avoid sharing a national identification number or password with strangers. A last-minute request can be affected by processing time or a delay in data transfer. If separate times are specified, distinguish the candidate's final review from the school's final correction. When the discrepancy remains, use the official communication channel to describe the issue and the steps already taken, and request a clear direction rather than assuming that silence means approval. 5. What does the quota not guarantee? An accurate valedictorian record does not waive the entry conditions for a program or replace the candidate's preference order. Whether a separate quota exists, how it may be used, the candidate's exam score and the placement rules must be read in the applicable year's ÖSYM preference guide. An earlier year's closing rank or an anecdote about another graduate is not a guaranteed outcome; places and applicants change. Verify the school-first record first, then inspect the quota and conditions on the exact program row you intend to choose. Mixing the two questions can make you overlook a relevant opportunity or assume an entitlement that has not been established. A personal case requires the current official rules, not a generic formula. 6. How should a later applicant prepare? Ask your school how it determines and records its top graduate, and distinguish the graduation year from the YKS examination year. Follow ÖSYM's new YKS announcements, the education-information review and the preference guide as separate stages. The 17–22 July window in the 2026 notice is not a promise that future windows will be identical. A private checklist can include the AİS record, school correction request if necessary, a second on-screen check and review of the quota row in the current preference guide.
