What are consumer rights?

Consumer rights protect people acting outside commercial or professional purposes in qualifying goods and services transactions. Turkish Law 6502 provides the main framework. Purpose and transaction type matter; consumer status does not create unconditional returns for every purchase.

Main protections

1. Information Clear prices, characteristics and terms matter. Advertising promises and contract information may be examined. A checkbox alone does not prove proper disclosure of every duty. 2. Defects Missing agreed or legally expected characteristics can trigger remedies. Repair, replacement, price reduction and withdrawal have conditions. Misuse and defects require factual assessment. 3. Withdrawal differs Distance contracts may allow withdrawal subject to conditions and exceptions. The same universal right should not be assumed for defect-free store purchases. Voluntary return policies differ from statutory rights.

Evidence and remedies

4. Records Preserve orders, payments, delivery information, correspondence and service documents. State dates and requested solutions clearly. Records must be genuine and lawfully kept. 5. Correct forum Tribunal or court routes can depend on dispute type and current monetary thresholds. Some litigation requires mediation. Check the relevant year’s official limits and exceptions. 6. Time and effects Guarantees, defect liability and withdrawal periods differ. Applications do not automatically stop every deadline. Older online amounts and forms may be outdated; assess current rules for the transaction and claim.
