What is Facts about penguins?

Penguins are flightless birds using their wings for swimming; not all species live in Antarctica.

Body and range

Wings work as flippers, while feathers and body fat contribute to insulation. Some live in polar conditions, others along temperate coasts and islands. Fish, krill or squid consumption varies by species and region. An awkward appearance on land does not prevent agility underwater. Breeding, parental roles and colony sizes differ; treating every penguin like an emperor penguin is misleading.

Ecological sensitivity

Marine feeding grounds and terrestrial breeding sites both matter. Sea temperature, prey availability, fisheries and disturbance can have different effects by region. A one-year change in a colony cannot establish the global trend for every species. Conservation status should be checked with current species-level data.
