What is blended learning?

Blended learning deliberately combines face-to-face teaching with online or other digital learning activities.

The role of each component

A digital tool should be chosen for preparation, practice or individual feedback, not simply to repeat the same lesson on a screen. Students might review a short explanation at home and solve problems in class; another course might introduce a concept in person and then offer adapted online practice. Activities need to connect, with goals and assessment criteria visible to learners. No single ratio or technology works for every subject; design depends on content and access.

Implementation challenges

Devices, connectivity, privacy, screen time and teacher workload all matter. Without offline alternatives or access at school, the approach may widen inequalities. Teachers preserve discussion and guidance in person while checking what online tasks actually improve. UNESCO frames digital education as a human-centred means to educational goals.
