What is Facts about lions?

The lion, Panthera leo, is a large cat found mainly in Africa today, with a small population in India.

Social life and hunting

Lions are more social than most large cats. Relationships among groups of females, cubs and males can change; not all lions live in groups of the same size. They often hunt large herbivores, but prey choice and scavenging depend on local conditions. Females often hunt, yet it is untrue that males never do. A mane distinguishes many adult males, with colour and size varying among individuals and settings.

Ecology and conservation

Large predators interact with herbivore populations, but no ecosystem’s change can be explained by one predator alone. Habitat loss, conflict with people and declining prey pose different risks across regions. Measures developed with communities can help reduce livestock losses. The appearance of one lion in a photograph does not represent all of the species’ natural behaviour.
