They are seeking to effectively ban journalism

The government’s pressure on the media shows that journalism is effectively banned in the country. The latest target of the pressure was BirGün reporter İsmail Arı. Stating that the judge ordered him to be remanded in custody almost without listening to him, Arı said: “He interrupted the lawyers. They are sending me to prison once again for an offence that does not even carry a custodial sentence.”
