Authorities deployed 70,000 security personnel across the country for the October 24 marches in Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Lille, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Montpellier and Nantes. 'Nearly 1,000' people were arrested, a number that 'will rise' as more figures come in, authorities said.
